DR. VALDEZ HOUSE
DR.VALDEZ HOUSE. 2020

In a 10X20m plot in the south of Saltillo we were commissioned to design a one bedroom house with an attached small apartment.

The north orientation of the façade, the surrounding constructions and the narrowness of the plot complicated a proper solar orientation, so the main volume was rotated 40 degrees to the the winter sun to enter. This rotation creates secondary patios and allows the larger diagonal space to be illuminated and ventilated by multiple sides.

The joined kitchen, dinning and living area revolve around the largest of the triangular patios.

The entry door hides itself to the side of a brick wall with a Joseph Albers reinterpretation. Modern bay windows work as indoor benches and expand the feeling of depth of the windows.

The apartment, while small, plays with different floor and ceiling heights that give it a sense of more amplitude than the actual sq. meters it has.
