WASHINGTON HOUSE
WASHINGTON HOUSE. 2020
Downtown Monterrey is changing, its potential for density and hosting new dwellings is starting to be harnessed. This retrofit takes advantage of this growth.
The remodel is organized along the original longitudinal axis of the 20's house, consequently removing interior walls which were done more recently, thus the space is rearranged for today's dwellers.
What was achieved is a great social space with kitchen, dining room and living room with two new tall window doors facing a lateral patio, while the main entrance was protected through a covered porch that mediates between street and interior. A new bathroom creates a hallway that divides social and private spaces, while the former kitchen becomes a family room with a terrace and garden that were previously the service patio and laundry room.
The result of the retrofit are rooms that are spacious and bright with the existing generous heights and their new relationships to the exterior spaces.
